Not In My Backyard Project PSA Announcement

25 Jun

From Jacquelyn Aluotto CEO/Founder of RBRW

THE NIMBY PROJECT PSA:

The NIMBY Project is an inspiration from the documentary “Not In My Backyard.” The documentary takes viewers into battered women and children shelters across America. Throughout the voyage, you see the reality of these women, teens, and children who seek survival in a country that ignores this epidemic. This is the first time cameras were allowed in the shelters, let alone the underground shelters. Producer and Human Activist Jacquelyn Aluotto produces the documentary not only to expose the truth but to give a 100 percent of the proceeds to save these shelters. The movement is headstrong with Celebrities, Activists, Communities, and Artists across the nation. Famous Actor Luis Guzman is a spokesperson for the “Not In My Backyard” documentary. The NIMBY Project is also features a TV show and movement to make-over shelters. In June, we are shooting the PSA for the documentary. We invite you to become involved in making a difference in the world! Help stop poverty, abuse, and homelessness. Help educate and heal those that suffer in our own backyard.

50 percent of homeless people are women and children fleeing abuse.

23-40 percent of the homeless are veterans.

1.6 million children in America are without a home.

Please join our movement and show that we are making a difference.  Break the cycle of violence and poverty. Educate, build, and inspire through the arts.

The PSA will consist of reading from a script that we will send to you prior to the PSA date. We also will have cue cards ready. The script consists of the following:

–The NIMBY Project, the “Not In My Backyard” Project inspired by the documentary.

–Why people should join this movement? –

People in our own “backyards” are homeless and suffering.

–Statistics: –––>1.6 million children are homeless in America. –––>Every 2 minutes a child becomes homeless in our “backyards.”

–––>50% of the homeless are women and children fleeing abuse.

They are the largest group of the homeless, and growing. –––>23-40% of homeless people are veterans.

Through this TV pilot, the NIMBY documentary, our “NIMBY: Save Shelters!” SmartPhone App, we can help save all these people by supporting the shelters helping them to heal and provide them safe havens to empower victims into survivors, and giving the voiceless a voice. Our Arts, healing, and education programs at shelters can help break this cycle of violence and homelessness. This is not just any show, but a movement we all can become involved in.

Help us save shelters and provide to the victims and the homeless. Help us rebuild humanity. You can be a mentor, a builder, an artist, a teacher. Anyone.

Go to RBRW.org and find out how to join.

Police say international pedophile ring smashed

16 Mar

The following article is very encouraging. We must never give up trying to help these children.

By MIKE CORDER, Associated Press – Wed Mar 16, 11:36 am ET

THE HAGUE, Netherlands – Police said Wednesday they have smashed a huge international pedophile ring, rescuing 230 children from abuse and arresting 184 suspects — including teachers and police officers.

The three-year investigation code named Operation Rescue uncovered 670 suspects and identified and safeguarded children in more than 30 countries by arresting people accused of abusing them, said Rob Wainwright, director of the European Union police agency Europol.

The ring was centered on an Amsterdam-based online forum called boylover.net, which Wainwright described as “probably the largest online pedophile network in the world.”

“These are very serious crimes on a truly global basis,” he added.

The heavily encrypted forum, whose administrator appeared in a Dutch court on Tuesday charged with sex offenses, had up to 70,000 members.

The investigation was led by Britain’s Child Exploitation and Online Protection Center but also involved law enforcement agencies as far afield as Australia, the United States and Thailand.

Peter Davies of the British child protection center said there would be more arrests as the investigations continue.

Breaking the Cycle

of Domestic Violence

February 1, 2011

Dear Supporter:

Please allow me to introduce myself. My name is Sandra Ramos and I am the founder of the first shelter for battered/homeless women and children in North America. The shelter started in my home in 1970 in which I shared with my three children. I am presently the Founder and Executive Director of Strengthen our Sisters in Passaic County. We are a 177 bed, nonprofit shelter organization providing housing and supportive services to battered/homeless women and children.

Strengthen Our Sisters is hopeful that your generosity will be contagious. Strengthen Our Sisters is currently in the process of purchasing the old Victorian home directly next door to the animal shelter project.  The reason I am contacting you is that many of our women and children escaping violence are in need of a safe home but, are unable to bring their pets with them to the shelter. Currently there are no shelters in the state of New Jersey that allows pets to live in a domestic violence/homeless shelter environment. Many of the families we serve are so in love with their animals that they remain in dangerous situations because they do not want to leave their pet behind. Others worry that their abuser will retaliate and harm the family pet once leaving the home which unfortunately is a common occurrence.

We have come up with a solution. As I stated above, we have recently been given the opportunity to purchase the older Victorian home directly next door to the animal shelter project in Wanaque, New Jersey. The owners of the animal shelter project are more than willing to help us in our mission to provide housing and care for the pets of families escaping domestic violence. We are in desperate need to raise $100,000 for the down payment in order to close on the sale of this home.  With some financial help we can secure a safe place not only for our families, but have a refuge available for their pet’s right next door.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Also, if you could direct this email to any sponsors willing to aide us in this project it would be greatly appreciated. Please visit www.sosdv.org to contribute.

Thank you.

In struggle for a just society,
I remain,

Sandra Ramos
